EirGrid, Electricity and Turf (Amendment) Bill 2022: Committee and Remaining Stages Dail Éireann — 2022-06-29 ============================================================ Darren O'Rourke (SF), Meath East I move amendment No. 1: In page 4, line 35, after “thereto” to insert the following: “, with priority given to renewables, zero or low carbon electricity generation options or those most easily retrofitted into zero or low-carbon alternatives in the future”. What I want to do in this amendment is to ensure there is a commitment to consideration of the types of technologies that EirGrid is going to enter into agreement on and procure, and that there should be a prioritisation for technologies that are either renewable, zero carbon or low carbon, or can be transitioned into low carbon alternatives. The point is that they are adaptable and there is a prioritisation within the procurement process. I do not see that elsewhere in the Bill. It is very important that the decisions we make now will bake in emissions into the future. We want to have these technologies. We recognise there is a crisis and we recognise time is important in this regard, but we also need to have an eye on the technologies, so they are zero carbon, low carbon or adaptable into the future. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
