Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation Dail Éireann — 2022-10-20 ============================================================ Pauline Tully (SF), Cavan-Monaghan I was contacted by the father of an eight-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the end of last year. She is under the care of an excellent team in Cavan General Hospital but she is finding the insulin injections quite stressful. When her parents inquired about an insulin pump, they were told that due to staffing and funding issues, that was not possible in Cavan General Hospital and the doctor referred her to a different hospital. I know this does not apply just to Cavan General Hospital and a lot of other hospitals have the same issue. I have spoken about this previously to the Minister for Health and somebody from his office was in touch with me, but my understanding is that the HSE has not responded on this issue. I raise it again, therefore, to look for an answer on whether funding will be supplied to Cavan General Hospital and other hospitals to provide insulin pumps in diabetes clinics. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
