Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation Dail Éireann — 2023-03-01 ============================================================ Gary Gannon (SD), Dublin Central The Children's Rights Alliance annual report card indicates a significant decrease in the quality of conditions experienced by children living in direct provision. The rating fell from a B to a D grade in just a year. I appreciate the complexities of the past year but children are living in temporary accommodation centres throughout the country that are grossly unsuitable, with no inspections carried out by HIQA. The same report made two suggestions I implore the Taoiseach to take on board. The first is the call on the Government to introduce an international protection child payment, equivalent to that recommended in the White Paper on children living in the international protection system. The second is that the Government should also commence HIQA inspections of existing international protection centres against national standards as a matter of urgency, and develop a clear framework for independent inspections of the future accommodation model. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
