Historic and Archaeological Heritage Bill 2023: Committee Stage Seanad Éireann — 2023-03-01 ============================================================ Malcolm Noonan (GP), Carlow-Kilkenny I am uncertain as to the suitability of drawing an Oireachtas joint committee directly into the implementation of the enacted Bill. There may be a misinterpretation here regarding the deletion of particulars from the register of monuments. Examples of the particulars referred to in section 17 could include landowners' information, geographical areas, technical details or descriptions of monuments. Given that there could be in excess of 180,000 registered monuments, a requirement to seek approval from the joint committee every time a particular monument in the register is deleted is not considered workable. Having to do so would seriously affect the ability to maintain and update a register of monuments. For this reason, I am not in a position to accept the amendment. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
