Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions Dail Éireann — 2023-05-04 ============================================================ Micheál Martin (FF), Cork South-Central I did not interrupt the Deputy. I just want to make the point that the legislation on food pricing is the first of its kind. It will bring about far greater transparency and it is designed to help the primary producer. The ECB is increasing interest rates in order to bring down inflation more generally. They were at historically low levels. Every economist will acknowledge that. The Government has to intervene to reduce the pain, as the Deputy has said. That is the right thing to do in the exceptional circumstances we have experienced, namely, the war in Ukraine and coming out of the first pandemic in 100 years. These have had huge implications for supply chains more generally. We have to get inflation down. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
