Gambling Regulation Bill 2022: Report Stage Dail Éireann — 2024-04-24 ============================================================ James Browne (FF), Wexford The Deputy’s amendment seeks to address an important matter and raises interesting concerns around gambling. It would repeal the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956, except for section 36. If my interpretation is correct, the good intention behind the Deputy’s amendment is to protect people who are participating in gambling from being pursued by a bookmaker, casino or other similar operator for a gambling debt. This issue is addressed in sections 9(2), 9(3) and 157 of the Bill. However, I am continuing to review this matter and I am happy to continue engaging with the Deputy, so I ask him to withdraw his amendment. I may end up going with the Deputy’s amendment, just not right now. This is a technical area and I wish to continue considering it. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
