International Protection, Asylum and Migration: Motion (Resumed) Dail Éireann — 2024-06-19 ============================================================ Seán Ó Fearghaíl (CC), Kildare South You are absolutely right. We need to tell the truth, but we need to be careful with our language that we do not incite people, rightly or wrongly. I am sure the Minister will correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding in respect of this pact, and Members will vote whatever they want, which is their prerogative, is that Ireland will still have an obligation, pact or no pact, under international law, to allow people who wish to claim asylum to come to the country and make that claim. Pact or no pact, that will still happen. As for the idea, therefore, that if Members vote any particular way on the pact, it is going to change all that, it will not change it one iota. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
