Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024: Committee and Remaining Stages Seanad Éireann — 2024-07-09 ============================================================ Alice-Mary Higgins (IND), National University of Ireland I thank the Chair. To be clear, this is not a matter of long-term unemployed people but of people in their first 26 weeks or 39 weeks of unemployment, which is less than the first year of unemployment. I am referring to the first two months, three months or five months of unemployment. It would be more appropriate if they were left with access to the voluntary support. If they move off that page and become long-term unemployed, the other system is already in place for them. It is to the immediately and recently unemployed that the measure will apply. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
