Proposed approval by Dáil Éireann of the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2024: Motion Dail Éireann — 2024-10-22 ============================================================ Mick Barry (PBP), Cork North-Central What exactly are the priorities of the Government? What is important to it and what is not? There are people out on the streets forced to go rattling tins to raise money for domestic violence centres and the Government decides to give almost €20 million to the greyhound industry. Does the Minister of State not know this is a cruel industry? Deputy Murphy said one quarter, and my statistics state more than one third, of the racing greyhounds born in 2021 and still remaining on the island of Ireland are now either dead or unaccounted for. Perhaps Deputy Mattie McGrath might have a listen rather than talking over me in the same way he tried to speak over Deputy Cairns when she was speaking. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
