Finance Bill 2024: Committee and Remaining Stages Seanad Éireann — 2024-11-06 ============================================================ Paul Gavan (SF), Labour Panel I move recommendation No. 1: In page 10, between lines 10 and 11, to insert the following: “Report on Universal Social Charge 3. The Minister shall, within 3 months of the passing of this Act, prepare and lay before Dáil Éireann a report on removing the Universal Social Charge from the first €45,000 a person earns.”. I will move through these as quickly as I can because many of them are common sense and self-explanatory. This amendment calls for a report on the universal social charge, specifically that the Minister would, within three months of the passing of this Act, prepare and lay before Dáil Éireann a report on removing the universal social charge from the first €45,000 a person earns. It is to establish what the actual cost of that proposal would be and speaks very much to the points I and Senator Boyhan made, that the proposals from the Government are fundamentally unfair and this is the way we should go. A report on this topic would bear out the points we are trying to make. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
