Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (Amendment) Bill 2023: Committee Stage Seanad Éireann — 2025-04-01 ============================================================ Cathal Byrne (FG), Cultural and Educational Panel I speak in support of this amendment to the principal Act. It is important where a member of the public has experienced and been a victim of financial wrongdoing, the mis-selling of financial products or financial fraud at the behest of somebody who is regulated under the provisions of this Act, that there be the opportunity for an individual complainant or two complainants, whatever the case may be, for evidence to be taken under oath in the course of those proceedings, with the penalties that go with that to apply. It is important that those provisions remain part of this Bill. If there is a question mark over what exactly happened in the context of an investigation, it is only right and proper that the evidence presented in the course of that investigation can be scrutinised under oath. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
