Finance Bill 2025 [Certified Money Bill]: Committee Stage Seanad Éireann — 2025-12-09 ============================================================ Simon Harris (FG), Wicklow Senator Byrne summed up Fine Gael's position very well. It is always right that the issues are scrutinised, but we have an economy that is very reliant on people coming in and investing in our country, on the jobs that brings to our country, and indeed on the corporation tax and the revenues that creates in our country. One only has to look at last week's November Exchequer returns to realise how important a part it is. With respect to everybody in this House and the other House, every day there are more demands to spend more money on health and education, etc. That money does not fall from the sky; it comes from the very successful economic model we have built up. It is based on a combination of small and medium enterprises and indigenous Irish companies, and also an ability to attract foreign direct investment and highly skilled people into this country to do those jobs. That is why we have decided to refine the SARP. I know we have a policy difference in relation to this, but that is the policy rationale behind it. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
