Cabinet Committees Dail Éireann — 2026-01-13 ============================================================ Richard Boyd Barrett (PBP), Dún Laoghaire We should all declare our solidarity with Iranian people protesting against rampant inflation, corruption and the violent repression they are facing at the hands of the Iranian regime. The regime should stop killing protesters and should lift the censorship that it has imposed on Iranian people fighting for legitimate change and reform in their country. However, we should be equally clear in saying that Donald Trump and the American military have no right to threaten Iran or any other regime, as they did with Venezuela, kidnapping its leader whatever we may think of Maduro, and I do not think much of him. They have no right to threaten Greenland, Cuba or Mexico, or, as Trump is threatening as we speak, possible military action against Iran. If we are going to be consistent in our principles, in standing up for human rights and standing up for self-determination, as well as calling out the violent repression of the Iranian regime, we have to call out Donald Trump's warmongering and naked imperialism across the globe. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
