Mental Health Bill 2024: Committee Stage (Resumed) Seanad Éireann — 2026-01-20 ============================================================ Victor Boyhan (IND), Agricultural Panel I will keep in short. In fairness to the Minister of State, I recall her touching on this amendment. There are so many amendments, which is the nature of the legislation. I remember her touching on it but conscious that the amendment had not yet been reached. She has made her position quite clear. I will not go into any great detail other than to endorse what Senator Ryan said. I will not repeat everything the Senator said but I fully agree with her. This is a very welcome amendment as it strengthens and safeguards issues around involuntary admission. By requiring a higher threshold for involuntary detention, the amendment helps to ensure such admissions are used only as a measure of last resort and, which is even more important, in keeping with Ireland's human rights obligations. I will leave it at that. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
