National Economic and Social Council Dail Éireann — 2026-02-17 ============================================================ Malcolm Byrne (FF), Wicklow-Wexford I would like to focus on two key themes in the NESC report: energy resilience and energy sharing. In light of the particularly adverse weather, it is important that for events we have experienced and will increasingly experience, we guarantee generators to communities so communities can respond, which is clearly identified in the report. On energy sharing, within the electricity markets directive, there is a clear emphasis on trying to support communities in self-generating and sharing their own electricity and for individuals and organisations who microgenerate electricity to be able to share that. This report highlights that we have not gone far enough in Ireland in this regard and I would like to know what measures the Government will take to address that. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
