Equality Issues Seanad Éireann — 2026-05-07 ============================================================ Chris Andrews (SF), Labour Panel When will the memorandum be brought to Government? It really is urgent. There are any number of reports, studies and definitions and any amount of research but the time for research, studies and definitions is long past. The Government knows what needs to be done and it needs to do it. We have a situation where discrimination on grounds of race, religion and gender, among others, has been made illegal, which is very welcome, but we need to ensure discrimination on socio-economic grounds is introduced as a matter of urgency. The Government cannot kick the can down the road. They know it is there, as the Minister of State said. There needs to be urgency and we need action now. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
