Eileen Flynn (IND), Administrative Panel

I want to bring to the attention of the House that this week is Traveller Pride Week. It runs from 18 to 29 May. Events will be happening up and down the country. We are hoping to have an event in Leinster House in two weeks' time with the Traveller committee. It will be a meet and greet with members of the Travelling community. There will also be a bit of music. It is really important to celebrate young Travellers during Traveller Pride Week. It is celebrated with awards in education, youth community and sports. It is about Travellers participating in society. I have said numerous times that we want to participate in society. We want to go on and be solicitors, judges, doctors, nurses, etc. We want equality of opportunity and need the right supports to be able to be successful in that. Any of the Members of the Houses can look up their local organisations. I ask them to please go. Nothing about us without us. This is an opportunity for those Members to learn more about our culture and way of life.
