An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business Seanad Éireann — 2026-05-26 ============================================================ Sharon Keogan (IND), Industrial and Commercial Panel I wish to speak to the recent acceptance of the credentials of the Iranian ambassador to Ireland, a decision that raised serious and deeply troubling questions. I believe we need to be clear about two things. First, this was not a ceremonial inevitability. Second, this was not the President's decision. While the President formally receives the letter of credence, the decision to allow that ceremony to proceed rests squarely with the Government, specifically the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade acting under the authority of the Minister. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
