Garda Síochána (Powers) Bill 2026: Committee Stage (Resumed) Seanad Éireann — 2026-06-10 ============================================================ Lynn Ruane (IND), University of Dublin Yes but it is in relation to how information about stop and searches is recorded on the PULSE system. If somebody does not give the information, he or she does not give the information but it does not mean you cannot or do not attempt to collect data on it. With the way the PULSE system is set up, you could have a drop-down option that said the person refused to give his or her religion. It would not create an offence. It is more about creating the conditions under which data can be collected rather than it creating an offence for a person who decided he or she did not want to give his or her religion. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
