Defamation (Amendment) Bill 2024: Report Stage Dail Éireann — 2025-07-02 ============================================================ Jim O'Callaghan (FF), Dublin Bay South I move amendment No. 3: In page 5, line 22, to delete the comma after “Act” and substitute the following: “— “cause of action”, “defamation” and “defamation action” have the same meanings as they have in the Principal Act;”. This amendment seeks to include different references to "cause of action", "defamation" and "defamation action", which were not in the original Bill. The amendment ensures that certain terms used in the transitional provisions introduced by amendments Nos. 11 to 17, inclusive, amendments Nos. 19 to 22, inclusive, and amendment No. 37, which we will be looking at presently, are understood in line with the definitions in the Defamation Act 2009. It is a technical amendment. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
