Michael Moynihan (FF), Cork North-West

The importance of this project is that it will inform policy into the future in regard to small schools. In the first instance, I acknowledge the huge work that small schools do in every county in Ireland and in some city locations as well, due to having different demographics. These clusters are to understand the challenges small schools have. The Deputy is right that more schools are looking to get into the pilot scheme as fast as possible because they see the benefits of it. The evaluation of the pilot project will inform policy into the future in relation to schools. It is important that we understand them. Over the years, I have seen that, because of different dynamics or work practices, schools that were once struggling for numbers are now bursting at the seams and additional teachers are coming in. These small schools are hugely important for Ireland Inc. and the benefits of this project will inform policy.
