Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation Dail Éireann — 2026-01-21 ============================================================ Paul Murphy (PBP), Dublin South-West Why does the Government have it in for disabled people and carers? It had a budget where disabled people were singled out for a particularly cruel set of cuts, amounting to more than €1,400. Now we have carers being faced with substantial tax bills. One man in his 80s is facing a bill of more than €6,000. These people are not tax dodgers. They are saving the State billions of euro because of the work they are doing in caring for a loved one at a tiny fraction of the cost it would take for the State to pay for it privately. Will the Government leave the carers alone and instead focus its attention on the Ministers who owe tens of thousands of euro to the State and have not made any attempt to repay it over seven months after they found out about it? --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
