Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation Dail Éireann — 2026-01-21 ============================================================ Michael Murphy (FG), Tipperary South The Minister just mentioned the allocation of gardaí to Cork. Maintaining law and order is not just a challenge for Cork or Dublin; it is also a challenge for every town and village across Ireland. The absence of a Garda presence has become normalised rather than exceptional in my constituency of south Tipperary. A town without order is a town that shuts down socially and economically. The Minister mentioned the most recent intake of 251, with 154 gardaí allocated - two thirds - to Dublin and Cork. What are we to conclude from that? Will the Minister engage with the Garda Commissioner to ensure we have a balanced regional allocation in terms of the four intakes for 2026? --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
