Mineral Oil Tax: Financial Resolution Dail Éireann — 2026-08-28 ============================================================ Ken O'Flynn (II), Cork North-Central I thank the Tánaiste for the 21-page document. He talks a very good talk in that 21-page document but the reality is that his actions do not match it. This is a sticking plaster on a broken leg. That is what the Tánaiste is doing here today. That is effectively what it is. Some 500,000 in this country are in energy arrears. Some 18,000 are in homeless accommodation. Grocery prices are up by 4%. The Government is recalling the Dáil and the Tánaiste is telling us he is planning for the future. This is a six-week deferral. If the Tánaiste had any business acumen or understanding of how businesses are run, he would know that you cannot plan with just six weeks' certainty. You need to have at least three, four or five months to run any household, to plan your business or to plan your costs. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
