Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions Dail Éireann — 2026-05-26 ============================================================ Micheál Martin (FF), Cork South-Central The population increase in the last ten years has been quite phenomenal as well and is having an impact on the housing situation. Migration - and I mean this in a general sense, not casting any aspersions - has had an impact on housing also. One only has to look at the figures now of the people who are non-European or non-Irish in emergency accommodation. It is well over 50%. That is where we are in the modern era. We have to deal with that. We have to help people who find themselves homeless. Of that there is no doubt, but we also need to understand what the drivers of homelessness have been in the past five to ten years. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
