Heritage Schemes Dail Éireann — 2026-06-11 ============================================================ Charlie McConalogue (FF), Donegal I agree fully. The shared experience and history of both parts of our island have been crucial to bringing our island together. When Irish people have gone abroad, from North or South, and built relationships abroad, that has been extremely positive. Those international relationships bring our own island together as well, whether this concerns our shared heritage of people travelling over the decades and centuries to America, or within the European Union context, where sharing the European project also brought our island together in terms of removing borders. We saw the challenge posed when that process started to be reversed through Brexit. In terms of looking towards the contribution that North and South have made to America, there is a real opportunity there to ensure this is part of our shared future and brings us together in the context of our clear similarities and shared history and contribution. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
