Home Heating Oil (Emergency Mineral Oil Tax Reduction) Bill 2026: Second Stage [Private Members] Dail Éireann — 2026-09-22 ============================================================ Alan Dillon (FG), Mayo I move amendment No. 1: To delete all words after "That" and substitute the following: "Dáil Éireann declines to give the Home Heating Oil (Emergency Mineral Oil Tax Reduction) Bill 2026 a second reading on the grounds that related matters are being considered as part of Budget 2027 on 6th October 2026"." Ireland has a strong economy. The job of Government is now to make sure that people feel that strength in their everyday lives. We fully recognise the pressures high energy and fuel costs are placing on households, on farmers and on businesses. These pressures are real. They are being felt at the pumps, in home heating bills and in the cost of running farms and businesses. The conflict in the Middle East has created economic pressures far beyond the region itself. De-escalation would have the single biggest impact on international energy prices. No Irish government can fully insulate people from a global energy shock. Anyone who claims otherwise is not being honest. However, Government can take action to protect households and key sectors and it has done so. Budget 2027 is now only 14 days away. When Deputy Farrell talks about the here and now, it is just political theatre. By the time this Bill could take effect, budget 2027 would already have been announced----- --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
