Ceisteanna ó na Comhaltaí Eile - Other Members’ Questions Dail Éireann — 2026-09-24 ============================================================ Simon Harris (FG), Wicklow I fully agree. The housing activation office and Garret Doocey are doing a very good job, along with the team and the seconding in of people from other State agencies. The Deputy is right that we have allocated a lot of money and communities now want to see those projects delivered quickly. Each of those projects are enablers for housing right across the country as well. I personally believe there are two ways the Government should operate: the Government should help when it can and get the hell out of the way when it cannot. Infrastructure requires both. We are helping by providing a quarter of a trillion euro in investments but, also, sometimes we need to get out of the way in terms of bureaucracy and red tape - is there anything to be said for another permit, review or body? That is really what the accelerating infrastructure taskforce action plan is about. We help by providing the funding and get out of the way when it comes to far too much bureaucracy and red tape. I have given tangible examples to the House today, on foot of Deputy Neville's question, of where we are already seeing the benefit of speeding up those timelines. We have to keep at that. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas. Licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
