Residential Tenancies (No. 2) Bill 2021: Committee and Remaining Stages Seanad Éireann — 2021-07-05 ============================================================ John Cummins (FG), Labour Panel I appreciate Senator Moynihan's point and acknowledge the response of the Minister, who has indicated he is considering wider protection in this space. It is a significant move to restrict deposits to the equivalent of two months' rent and the introduction of a deposit protection scheme is something I would like to see, if possible in the autumn. On Second Stage I suggested tying the element of the opt-out specifically to the third level sector and I appreciate that this is being done in the legislation before us. It is important to keep a close eye on that so there is no creep effect or anything untoward. I totally respect the bona fides of the Minister and I know if he says he will keep this under review, he will do so. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
