Maritime Area Planning Bill 2021: Committee Stage Seanad Éireann — 2021-12-14 ============================================================ John Cummins (FG), Labour Panel It is important to say that any periods of time we are adding to this process have implications. We all say we are in favour of meeting our targets in terms of wind energy, for example. However, this amendment, as is the case with many of the proposed amendments, will add time to the process. We must be realistic with the public and tell them that will have a tangible impact on our ability to meet our targets. If that is what is being proposed, I think we need to be honest and say that is what is being proposed. I have a real fear that if we keep adding time to the process, it will have negative consequences. I accept the bona fides of Senators Boyhan and Higgins in terms of what they are trying to achieve but we must also be honest about the implications of the changes they have proposed. I had another point on which I am now drawing a blank. Perhaps other Senators will be able to jog my memory when they return. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
