An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business Dail Éireann — 2022-04-05 ============================================================ Bríd Smith (PBP), Dublin South-Central I want to quote back to the Taoiseach the words of the UN General Secretary, António Guterres. The Taoiseach quoted Mr. Guterres this morning as follows: "Some government and business leaders are saying one thing but doing another. Simply put, they are lying". The Taoiseach seems to think that this applies to the Opposition because those in opposition, or some of us, at least, are against the imposition of punitive carbon taxes on ordinary people. Yet carbon taxes seem to be the only tool in the Government's kit for dealing with climate change. While the Taoiseach uses this quote, at the same time he is leaving the door open to liquified natural gas, LNG, the proliferation of data centres and the reintroduction of gas-fired power stations. How does the Taoiseach answer that accusation? António Guterres is actually accusing the Taoiseach and the Government not the Opposition, which is opposed to the imposition of carbon taxes on ordinary people. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
