On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 56 of 1,120 decisive votes (13 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Drug Dealing

One sentence in that proves the point that I made that more than one quarter of all drug seizures in the Kevin Street subdistrict were from the Oliver Bond complex. I did not say that gardaí are not working. In fairness, they are. There have been undercover operations. They act on the information they receive. I can tell them that if they go into H-block now, they will find a queue on the stairs waiting for delivery. When they come in, if they come in in uniform, that queue will just stand to one side and do nothin…

Defects in Apartments - Working Group to Examine Defects in Housing Report: Statements

It is important we address this issue and continue to do so until we have full sight, not only of the interim measures the Minister spoke about earlier on, but the full outworkings of the working group's report in order to have a scheme of 100% redress through a remedial programme to address the defects, whether it is 100,000 homes or more. As other Deputies said, this is not just private homes that are in landlords' possession. There are also private homes which are ordinary citizens' properties and homes which no…

Income Eligibility for Social Housing Supports: Statements

It was interesting to listen to Deputy O'Donnell. The average industrial wage is now more than €50,000. This does not go far enough.

You may have taken it but I am telling you that is what the average is.

Income Eligibility for Social Housing Supports: Statements

It is €50,000. We are still not reaching that minimal figure. The Deputy's argument is right but there is also another argument. A colleague of Deputy O'Donnell in government, Deputy Ó Cuív, said there should not be a threshold and that people should be allowed to be on the social housing list if they want to be on it. Those who want to be on it would be on it, and those who want to be on the affordable housing list would be on the same list but they would be able to afford to purchase the property if that was thei…

Planning and Development and Foreshore (Amendment) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage

I will try to be good and not name anybody. There is a need for good planning, however.

Planning and Development and Foreshore (Amendment) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage

I will not even name Santa Claus in this debate because there are no presents being given out in this legislation. We know Dublin has suffered the consequences of bad planning. Even though we are in a housing crisis, we need to get it right for the next generation. Much land is zoned already that needs to be built on. I have never had a problem with high-rise or high-density buildings in certain areas. For instance, the area I represent has been zoned for high-rise construction by the city council for more than 15 …

Community Employment Schemes

This question is to discuss the employment-related issues concerning community employment, CE, schemes supervisors and assistant supervisors. There is an issue around pensions also and there are a range of issues which have cropped up over the years that have never been fully addressed. One of the main ones is that most CE supervisors' jobs are benchmarked in the wrong way and it is not a proper recognition of the qualifications that are required, the activities they are forced to undertake and the job specificatio…

Community Employment Schemes

It is quite clear that the State is trying to hide behind the shadow-employer aspect of the role it plays in the WRC process. The State sets the payscales and benchmarks. No CE scheme is allowed to set the pay scale for a supervisor. Any scheme that increases the funding for a supervisor is punished, as the Department of Social Protection reduces the materials grant available for the scheme. Given the job of a supervisor, it is vital that this job and the job of an assistant supervisor is benchmarked in a different…
