On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 56 of 1,120 decisive votes (13 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Employment Support Services

I am glad to receive some clarification. I was not sure what the reason was for it, which is why I referred to another reason. If there is a State contract there and it was offered, has it been offered to any other service provider? The nearby EmployAbility in south Dublin or in north Dublin might be able, if resourced properly, to take up the services and perhaps employ some of the people who are working directly with these people, or take on the employers who place people who have availed of the EmployAbility ser…

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge

Tá an cheist seo dírithe ar an bhfadhb atá ann maidir le heaspa seirbhísí agus an gá chun déanamh cinnte de go bhfuil straitéis ann chun déileáil leis ionas nach gá do dhaoine óga, ach go háirithe, casadh ar an mBéarla chun bunseirbhísí a fháil.

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge

Chuala mé cad a bhí á rá ag an Aire Stáit ach sa deireadh thiar thall, do Ghaeilgeoirí agus lucht na Gaeltachta, i gcás bunseirbhísí, ní hí an Ghaeilge an teanga oifigiúil ó thaobh na seirbhísí sin de. Is teanga tánaisteach í toisc go mbíonn orthu go minic casadh ar an mBéarla. Sin an léiriú is simplí dá bhfuil ann ar an gceist seo. Tá easpa seirbhísí i nGaeilge á gcur ar fáil do Ghaeilgeoirí ó a bunaíodh an Stát agus tá an fadhb ag dul in olcas. Guím gach rath ar an mBille nuair a bheidh sé críochnaithe sa Seanad …

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge

Ní chóir dúinn a bheith ag fanacht ar an gcoiste comhairleach nó ar an mBille nó fiú ag úsáid an Bille gan bogadh ar aghaidh faoi láthair. Neartóidh an Bille ceist na Gaeilge agus tá súil againn go mbeidh seirbhísí ar fáil i nGaeilge. Mura mbeadh sin i gceist bheadh mise ag vótáil ina choinne. Táim den tuairim go gcuideoidh sé agus go neartóidh sé cás na teanga. Ní théann an Bille chomh fada agus atá mise ag iarraidh agus táimid fós ag fanacht ar na dréachtchaighdeáin a fheiscint. B'fhéidir nach bhfeicfidh muid iad…

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge

Impím ar an Aire Stáit, más féidir in aon chor, dul i dteagmháil leis an Roinn Caiteachais Phoiblí agus Athchóirithe chun déanamh cinnte de anois, seachas tar éis an mBille a bheith achtaithe nó tar éis an choiste comhairliúcháin, go mbeidh sé ag dul isteach sna Gaelcholáistí agus na coláistí i gceantair Ghaeltachta ag moladh do dhaoine díriú isteach ar an státseirbhís.

Departmental Funding

My question relates to the appropriateness of the use of funding from this State, via the Ulster-Scots Agency, to fund a celebration of partition and an event celebrating the sectarian paramilitary B-Specials.

That has been done. It has also been raised at council level.

Departmental Funding

I am aware of exactly what the Ulster-Scots Agency has stated it funded. However, that is not reflected in the poster for the event. The poster refers to Northern Ireland centenary celebrations and a historical re-enactment of the B-Specials. It states the event is backed up by the Ulster-Scots Agency. That is reflected in the poster. I do not know whether subsequent to this emerging, the Ulster-Scots Agency has been encouraged or asked by the Minister of State or his Department to disassociate from that event, in …

Departmental Funding

As I said earlier, I have raised this issue with my colleague. She is not answerable to me because she is a Minister of the Assembly and the Minister of State needs to bear that in mind. The matter has been raised in the council, which also part-funded this event. I will repeat my supplementary question in the hope I will get an answer this time. Has the Ulster-Scots Agency been asked to disassociate from the part of the event, which celebrated the deeds of the B-Specials? I did not ask what exactly the funding was…

Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed)

Táim ag roinnt mo chuid ama. Beidh 15 nóiméad agam agus cúig nóiméad ag an Teachta Cronin. Tá sé go maith go bhfuil deis againn labhairt ar an mBille seo. Déanfaidh sé athruithe áirithe do rialacha an bhóthair maidir le gluaisteáin agus na bealaí ina n-úsáideann muid na bóithre agus na cosáin. Baineann sé le scramblers, quads, e-rothair agus e-scooters agus forálacha eile maidir leis an M50 agus a leithéid, mar a luaigh na Teachtaí a labhair romham. Tá sé thar am go mbogfadh an Stát chun déileáil leis an gcrá croí …

Finance Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed)

Following two years of a near-total shutdown, the Government is only willing to finance an additional €200,000 for the arts and culture sector and an onslaught against the city's heritage is unfolding as we speak, with no effort whatsoever in this budget to stop or reverse that rot. Ní gá dúinn ach féachaint, mar shampla, ar Shráid an Mhóraigh. An bhfuil aon rud sa Bhille Airgeadais nó sa bhuiséad chun an oidhreacht ar an tsráid is stairiúla in Éirinn a chosaint, a chaomhnú agus a athmhúscailt do na glúnta atá romh…

Extension of Part 3 of the Health (Preservation and Protection and other Emergency Measures in the Public Interest) Act 2020: Motion

An tAire Sláinte is asking this House for the power to make up restrictions and regulations, as he sees fit, for another three months. This is the tenth time since the emergency powers were first agreed to deal with the immediate challenges posed by the onset of the pandemic that we are being expected to renew the blank cheque and to suspend normal parliamentary oversight. That is as the public sees it. It is borne out by the chaotic scenes in respect of live events only last week and again the week before that. We…

Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge

Lorg mé díospóireacht ar an ngéarghá atá ann chun gaelcholáistí nua a bheith lonnaithe sa chathair seo, ach go háirithe i gceantar dheisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath. Tá an t-éileamh ann cheana féin. Tá sé sin cruthaithe. Tá an Stát, toisc nach bhfuil gaelcholáistí ann, ag diúltú do pháistí a dtagann beagnach 500 dóibh in aghaidh na bliana amach as gaelscoileanna sa chuid sin den chathair nach bhfuil spás ann dóibh i ngaelcholáiste. Tá an Stát ag loiceadh ar an dualgas atá orthu gaeloideachas a sholáthar dóibh siúd. Is …

Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge

Measaim nach dtuigeann an Roinn na figiúirí. Má tá 391 dalta ag críochnú i rang 6 gach uile bhliain agus nach bhfuil ach 150 spás i ngaelcholáistí sa cheantar, tá fadhb bhunúsach ann. Tá 500 dalta a fhreastalaíonn ar ghaelscoileanna nach bhfuil áit ann dóibh i ngaelcholáistí. Mar a dúirt mé, ní thógann sé sin san áireamh iad siúd a théann ar scoileanna Béarla agus atá ag iarraidh dul chuig na Gaelcholáistí chomh maith. Tá an Stát ag loiceadh ar chearta na ndaltaí sin agus a dtuismitheoirí. Mar a dúirt mé, beidh fás…

Covid-19: Reframing the Challenge, Continuing our Recovery and Reconnecting: Statements

This week was meant to be a happy occasion for the entertainment sector, in particular, given the reopening after nearly two years of lockdown when we did not have as much of the vibrant cultural life we had before we all went online. Instead, it is all confusion, contradictory messages and gobbledygook. 100% is not 100% is the message people have got. People can sit and maybe stand, but only stand on a seat or stand next to a seat. People cannot stray or mingle and, God forbid, cannot dance unless they are in a ni…
