On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 105 of 752 decisive votes (4 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Consumer Rights Bill 2022: Report and Final Stages

I will speak briefly. The spirit of this contribution refers to where people sign up to broadband contracts, etc., and are not receiving the full broadband speed but are still paying the full premium price. Our request is that we have a way of dealing with this. We suggest that if there is a certain number of transmission dropouts, etc., these consumers are compensated for the lack of service. I believe that the Minister of State is aware of the spirit of this Bill to ensure that more powers will go to the regulato…

Living Wage Bill 2022: Second Stage [Private Members]

Ultimately, this is about decency. It is about giving people who are working full-time a wage upon which they can live. It is very simple. I was very interested in the Minister of State's closing remarks in which he said that the Government will not oppose the Bill, which is very welcome although it no longer really means much in this House. When the Minister of State and I first came in, that actually meant something, but there are now so many Bills sent off to never-never land that it does not really matter. I wa…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

As this is my final Leaders' Questions, I will ask about something that is important to me and on which I have worked for many years. It relates to women's health. First, I acknowledge Vicky Phelan and wish her the very best from the floor of the Dáil, and I hope all Members share that with me. I also acknowledge and thank Ms Lorraine Walsh, Mr. Stephen Teap and Mr. John Wall for their support and the work we have done over the past number of years. They certainly have had the biggest impact on me politically, more…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

I thank the Tánaiste for his kind words. I appreciate them. The Bill is extremely important. I am delighted to hear that it will move to Committee Stage next week. The right of citizens to have access to their information and for nothing to be hidden from them is critical. It is the be-all and end-all of everything that came out of the Scally report. I absolutely feel that in honour of Vicky Phelan and many other people, including Ruth Morrissey, who was treated very badly by the State, we need to ensure that the B…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

I wish to ask about a constituency matter, the Dean Maxwell nursing home in Roscrea. This issue has been ongoing for a long time. It is proposed that the nursing home would be closed for long-stay residents. Everyone is totally against that. This is a bedrock and essential in Roscrea. Everything has changed since the Covid pandemic. There is a significant requirement to invest in public infrastructure and nursing homes. Given that a very good proposal has been sent by Age Friendly Roscrea and given that HIQA has si…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

We are in unprecedented times. I have listened to the Taoiseach and there is validity in what he says but there comes a point when there is indiscriminate killing of civilians, where children are being murdered and when we know we have a dictator who is pursuing a scorched-earth policy. We have always shown leadership in this country. The Russian ambassador is a liar. He lied to the Irish people on multiple occasions. We are in unprecedented territory with a regime that is acting in an absolutely horrendous way. Th…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

The Russian ambassador is a liar. He has lied to the Irish people. His interview on RTÉ with David McCullagh will go down in history, as will the way he performed when he was before the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. We need to get rid of him. I accept what the Taoiseach is saying. It is a valid argument. However, I do not agree with him. There have been times when we have been of a different view to our European colleagues when it comes to how we have used funding. This is another issue on which I…
