On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 782 of 793 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Family Law Cases

The Minister's knowledge on the subject is obvious. I welcome the legislation being brought forward by the Minister, Deputy McEntee. It is not before time. The problem, however, is that there are a number of children and their parents who are already victims of the system, where mothers are prevented even from meeting with the children and are subject to the most appalling hardship and disregard in regard to the children's rights and entitlements and the mothers' own rights. They have important maternal rights. At …

Departmental Bodies

I raise a subject similar to that referenced in a previous question. I recently had occasion to see what I considered an incorrect application of the in camera rule to Tusla, which prevented it from investigating and fully supporting children who might be at risk.

Departmental Bodies

I thank the Minister for the extended nature of his reply and his understanding of the issue. In the past couple of days, I received notice from Tusla to the effect that I would not be allowed to attend a case conference because there was an objection. That was a surprise because my only interest in it was to ensure that the rights of the child and parents were preserved. Over the years, like the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I have attended the Royal Courts of Justice and most other courts, including the family law court…

Departmental Bodies

I should mention that I also attended the Old Bailey and, again, was always welcomed. To be told by an organisation of the State, with specific powers on behalf of the State to protect specific people, in this instance, children, I was amazed at such a response. I ask the Minister to take a look at the degree to which Tusla is being overshadowed by other Departments in this regard in order that it might pursue its responsibilities.

Supporting the Development of Dublin City through Safety Initiatives and the Appropriate Provision of Emergency and Other Services: Statements

It may seem odd that a country Deputy should get involved in Dublin city but, as the previous speaker has just said, it is everybody's city. We all have to take responsibility for it. We take pride in it and we reserve the right to comment when things are not as they should be. I acknowledge the point raised by Deputy Bríd Smith with regard to sporting and recreational facilities, clubs and youth clubs. An audit of what is available for young people is needed. It is not enough to say people are poor, upset and angr…

Family Law Cases

I thank the Ceann Comhairle for again affording me the opportunity to raise this issue in the House. As he knows, I raised it several weeks ago, when he gave me permission to do so, as did the Leas-Cheann Comhairle subsequently. Since then, matters have got worse as opposed to better. Normally, as the Ceann Comhairle knows, if one raises a matter in this House, there is usually a hurried rush to make changes and to ensure nothing is happening that should not be happening. That is not the case in this situation. The…

Family Law Cases

I thank the Minister of State and the Department for attaching importance to this issue. That deals with the issue for the future, which I welcome. Unfortunately, it does not deal with the current situation, which continues unabated. The question of parental alienation was always scoffed at by contributors in family law. It is regarded as a flawed resolution to a particular problem, which creates a further problem at the expense of mothers. We as creators of the law have put in place the necessary procedures whereb…

Capital Expenditure Programme

This question seeks to ascertain the extent to which capital works can continue, and that sufficient funding remains available to ensure the progress of water, drainage, sewage and housing schemes throughout the country.

Capital Expenditure Programme

I thank the Minister for his comprehensive reply. Will he continue to encourage his colleagues in various Departments to progress this as fast as possible? We always hear complaints about an inability to start a project because t's have not been crossed or i's dotted and some hold-up creates a problem. These things are not always possible to resolve. Will the Minister keep a close watch on what is happening in the various areas that are most affected and can most benefit from the allocation he has made?

Capital Expenditure Programme

I thank the Minister. I think his priorities are right. It is most important to ensure that works already earmarked for progress in the near future start. If they do not start, they cannot conclude. My strong recommendation is that the Minister continues in his role across Departments to encourage them to speed everything up.

Departmental Expenditure

These questions seek to ascertain the extent to which the Minister remains satisfied that spending across all Departments remains in line with projections but, at the same time, we retain the capability of responding to emergencies that may arise.

Departmental Expenditure

I thank the Minister for his detailed reply. I have a general question. The Minister is fully conversant with the situation but there may be emergencies this year, such as floods, storms, coastal erosion and any number of issues that may arise. I assure him that the House will support all measures required in emergencies, whatever they may be and whatever their nature.

To what extent does the Minister continue to monitor the efficacy of measures taken to tackle inflation, both locally generated and imported?

Inflation Rate

I thank the Minister for his comprehensive reply. To what extent are efforts being made across Europe and in this country to identify specific issues that might have a disproportionate impact on inflation throughout the EU and in this country, and has anything been identified? For example, various issues are suggested from time to time as being the cause of the rising inflation. In some cases, investigations carried out by individuals have indicated the figures are not accurate. One of them relates to a builder who…

Inflation Rate

I welcome the emphasis on monitoring what is happening as a means of identifying generated sources of inflation, which we cannot afford at this time, whether here or elsewhere in Europe. I thank the Minister for the information he gave. Will this approach continue for the foreseeable future?

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

I remind the Tánaiste of the continued use of section 47 reports, which deprive mothers of children who are removed forcibly from their care. They are being continuously punished for being mothers and being in the family law courts. We are failing to deliver to them natural justice, due process and their entitlement under the Constitution and the laws passed by this House. I ask the Tánaiste to interfere in their favour.

Ukraine War

This relates to a matter that was raised recently, namely, the need to deploy Ukrainian refugees to various locations around the country. This case has to do with Kill in County Kildare. The people of Kill have set a high standard down the years in terms of being innovative, of welcoming new people to the area and of providing the maximum amount of backup and assistance. That is still the case. Unfortunately, there were people in attendance at a public meeting who were not from the area and who had other intentions…

Ukraine War

I thank the Minister for his detailed reply and for his knowledge of the situation in the area. The provision of information and extra facilities, as required, is welcomed by those who may be temporarily or permanently housed there. It is important that the quality of whatever accommodation is made available is of a standard that is in keeping with their requirements and is of a sufficiently high standard to ensure that the situation does not become an embarrassment to the area or to the people living in that accom…
