On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 1,051 of 1,061 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Remediation of Dwellings Damaged by the Use of Defective Concrete Blocks (Amendment) Bill 2025: Committee and Remaining Stages

There are a few points I wish to make on these amendments. First, option B is what a lot of people in County Clare are getting. It means that outer and inner leaf will have to eventually be demolished, but the roof has to be kept. That is what they are being told. They are all telling me it is impossible to get a contractor. When contractors come out and look at the property, they wonder whether they are going to put stilts under the roof or prop up the roof and ask where they will start the demolition and where th…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Yesterday, a large number of people in the village of Newmarket on Fergus, County Clare, received a letter advising them that their local GP surgery would close and all operations and appointments would be moved centrally to the Saffron and Blue clinic in Clarecastle. One might say what about it, is a doctor not allowed to make those decisions? I would say that the answer is fundamentally "No". It is a failure if this is allowed to happen. There are 927 people on the patient list who are medical card holders. There…

Energy Costs: Statements

Before I speak to this subject, I congratulate the Ceann Comhairle and the staff of Leinster House for the event yesterday. We have all seen the analysis of our distinguished guests, as has been well covered in the media, but it is important to pay tribute to the ushers, the administrative office and the office of the Ceann Comhairle. It was a special and historic day and it passed off quite well. I am glad for the opportunity to speak on this debate. The debate takes on a whole new context in light of the front pa…

Housing Plan: Statements

I apologise to my colleague. I was on the wrong clock and I was thinking, "He has gone a minute over time" but he was within time. He will be looking back at the video asking, "What was your man doing there behind me?" I am glad to have the opportunity to speak on this. The Minister and Minister of State, Deputies Browne and O'Donnell, are two good men leading the Department. This plan is ambitious and I want it to succeed. Everyone wants it to succeed; the country needs it to succeed. There will be 300,000 new hom…

Planning and Development Act 2024 (Modifications) Regulations 2025: Motion

I am glad to have the opportunity to speak here this evening. There are a few points I would like to make. First of all, I think the Minister is doing a good job. It is a very difficult Department. I think everyone would acknowledge this, including predecessors who have held the position. The Minister has made a good start and I hope he succeeds in all areas that he is seeking to lead out on. I want to speak about the lack of uniformity in council development plans. I was a county councillor in Clare for 16 years b…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

Two beautiful villages in County Clare are Broadford and Cooraclare. They are fabulous villages but have one major problem. When one flushes a toilet in those village the sewage percolates through some gravel but will ultimately end up in drains. It will end up in Doon Lough in Broadford and in a river in Cooraclare. On 7 December 2023, almost two years ago, there was a wonderful announcement from Government that each village was to get €5 million for pilot sewerage schemes. They had waited 40 years for this. In fa…
