On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Local Government (Mayor of Limerick) Bill 2023: Instruction to Committee

I know that, but I have two different directions, one on screen and one written.

Residential Tenancies (Deferment of Termination Dates of Certain Tenancies) (No. 2) Bill 2023: Second Stage [Private Members]

I thank Deputy Ó Broin for introducing this Bill, which I will be supporting. There seems to be confusion on whether the Government is tabling an amendment or just opposing it, full stop. I have no idea how it could oppose the Bill. It is very limited; it is limited in time and it is limited in nature. It is to make provision to defer the termination dates of certain tenancies that fall or would fall during the period beginning on the day after the passing of the Act and ending on 31 March. Then there is a further …

Local Authorities

I return to the subject of the Galway social housing task force and its report. What engagement has the Minister had with the task force and its chairperson on the housing challenges and difficulties that have been highlighted in Galway, particularly the complete absence of availability of HAP properties locally? I have had a quick glance at the written reply to my question. I would appreciate if the Minister of State would focus on the issues I am raising here.

Local Authorities

The Minister of State, Deputy O'Donnell, worked with me to try to get a report produced. Our effort went into just getting a report from a task force that was set up in 2019. The Minister of State then told me he would study the report and come back to me with an analysis of the difficulties. I have read the written answer from the Minister of State, Deputy Noonan, already. Let us look at Galway city, where rents have breached all records and gone up by 12.5%. There are no houses available under HAP. The only game …

Local Authorities

I thank the Minister of State for confirming that he will look at it. It is a real concern to me that 6 acres of public land is being sold in a deal that we know nothing about, including the price, with no commitment to public housing. The task force was set up in 2019, before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We have had a serious housing crisis in Galway. The task force has become a further layer of bureaucracy that is there to assist the managers in the county and the city to comply with their plans. The county i…

We are running out of time and there are two questions left. With a little co-operation, we will get the two done perhaps.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

I am glad the Minister of State, Deputy Butler, is here. We have engaged on the floor of the House on public nursing home beds. She may recall I was delighted that she called for an audit of public nursing home beds last year. I am trying to get a copy of that audit. I think the Minister of State failed to get a copy of it. I have now failed to get a copy. What I have found out, and I thank the Minister of State for the answers, is that in the relevant CHO area there are 591 beds, 91 of which are closed. Taking bot…

I did. The HSE said that I cannot get it and that I have to ask specific questions. It is an internal document.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed)

I have placed a bundle of documents in front of me to give to context to what we are being asked to do. I would be misleading the Dáil if I said I have read the Bill. I have done my best to read around it and to read the memorandum. I thank the Library and Research team for producing two digests under extreme pressure. I want to thank the staff in the Department before I absolutely criticise this Bill. I have serious concerns about it, but certainly not about the staff. I make my comments today in the context of ye…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed)

It captures better what a local authority is there for - to serve. It is there to serve the people of Galway and Mayo. It is not a business. The Chair was there at the time, but he cannot comment, when the manager confirmed the number of vacancies for planners in Mayo County Council. This is the same for Galway City Council. The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, IHREC, which is a very respected organisation, highlight that we must keep the ex parte system, with the court retaining the discretion to direct…

Ábhair Shaincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 37 and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Colm Burke - To discuss the current position in respect of the treatment of home tutors as being self-employed. Deputy Louise O'Reilly - To discuss the shortage of school places in north County Dublin. Deputy Pearse Doherty - To discuss the need to ensure that failings within Tusla that have had a detrimental effect on a family in County Donegal are no…
