On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme Bill 2022: From the Seanad

I notice that a group of amendments have been taken together. Amendment No. 1 is in relation to conclusion dates, so I have no idea why that is there. Deputy Funchion has asked that question, and I will repeat it. First, I want to thank the Department for its work. When I attended the Irish-language committee today, I realised that there is an extraordinary number of vacancies in the Department and there is huge pressure on the Department. I will not repeat the figure, which I think was more than 100. The Minister …

Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme Bill 2022: From the Seanad

I have raised only two issues. One is whether the woman asked for her name to be removed. The other issue relates to discussing it in the Dáil.

Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme Bill 2022: From the Seanad

I echo what Deputy Funchion said about people listening to the debate and will not reiterate it. I fully support that. The Minister replied in respect of the appointment of Sheila Nunan and cannot comment on it. The problem is that if those negotiations had taken place prior to the creation of the scheme, perhaps it would be more comprehensive. Perhaps it would have taken away the fears of the establishment in regard to cost-containment measures because we would be operating from a bigger pool. Negotiating now, aft…

Nature Restoration Law: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members]

I must now deal with a postponed division relating to the nature restoration law, which took place on Wednesday, 5 July 2023. On the question, "That the amendment to the amendment to the motion be made", a division was claimed, and in accordance with Standing Order 80(2), that division must be taken now.

Will the Deputies dissenting who are claiming a division please rise in their places?

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

Táim ag díriú isteach ar mhuintir na Palaistíne agus go háirithe ar na daoine atá ina gcónaí ar an mBruach Thiar agus iad faoi ionradh ó arm Iosrael - ionradh fuilteach, mídhleathach atá ar siúl gan aon rud á rá againn in ainneoin gur tír neodrach muid agus go bhfuil ainm againn go bhfuilimid ar thaobh na ndaoine atá thíos. Tá, ar a laghad, deichniúr maraithe agus 100 duine gortaithe go dona, agus an figiúr ag ardú an t-am ar fad. Is í mo cheist don Taoiseach ná cad atá le rá aige. Níos tábhachtaí fós, cad atá le d…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

The Taoiseach's response is absolutely incredibly weak for an independent sovereign State. On 1 July, the Tánaiste condemned the illegal Israeli settlements. There are 5,500 further housing units in West Bank settlements - this illegal occupation is against international law - and more are planned. What we have here is an operation cynically called Operation Home and Garden. Can the Taoiseach imagine a slaughter of this nature being called Operation Home and Garden? I actually feel like stopping so that words can s…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

We have failed to bring in divestment of investment in the companies that are on the occupied lands, and we have failed to go with many other Bills that were tabled. We gave the usual pregnancy amendment, that is, putting it off for nine months. For God's sake, at this point, let us call it and let language mean something. What is the Taoiseach going to do in our name with regard to the slaughter of innocent people in the West Bank against international law?

Matters Arising in RTÉ: Statements

I am sharing time with Deputy Joan Collins. I agree with Deputy Mattie McGrath regarding the report he raised, our failure to deal with it in the Dáil and the length of time we are forced to give to this topic because of the utter failure of governance. In the meantime, 15-, 16- and 17-year-olds are being collected in taxis and subjected to sexual abuse in hotels, and the hotels have expressed concern. We have never discussed that in this Dáil. In respect of the matter before us, I welcome the Minister's detailed c…

Direct Provision System

I wish to follow up on a previous question about direct provision. I would like an update on the review of the implementation of the times for the White Paper recommendations and for the establishment of the new international protection support service. I ask that question given the long history that we are very familiar with in direct provision.
