On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Culture Policy

I know the Minister has a lot on her plate, but she is missing the point. A Galway culture company was established on 23 January 2023 as a successor to Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture. In February, we were told that the legacy framework would be published on the website in March, and we are now in May. I know there can be delays, but I am looking at the history of this. I have a library of questions and answers in relation to it. The language used does not help. To be positive, I welcome that there will be …

Culture Policy

Please do not explain it to me. Does the Minister think that when we use the phrase "to facilitate EU and international relationships", that means something to the artists on the ground in Galway, when we see that much money going in a direction that is very vague? That is why monitoring is very important.

Not really. The Minister of State has concluded his reply. The Deputy may come in with a supplementary question on any other question.

Before the Minister contributes again, I have two more contributors who wish to speak. I am conscious of Members who have tabled questions and are waiting patiently so I ask the Deputies to be brief. I call Deputy Ó Broin.

Ábhair Shaincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 37 and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Verona Murphy - to discuss the challenges presenting to the south-east community healthcare organisation to ensure a sustained delivery of disability services. Deputy Neasa Hourigan - to discuss Ireland's support for EU search and rescue efforts for migrants and asylum seekers in distress at sea in the Mediterranean. Deputy Colm Burke - to discuss a re…

Targeted Investment in the Health Service: Motion [Private Members]

I welcome the opportunity to speak on the motion and thank Deputy McNamara for bringing it forward. I also welcome the fact the Minister of State is not opposing it. That is positive. I also welcome that she is accepting the amendment tabled by the Social Democrats. I have a particular interest, coming from Galway, in the elective hospital, the salaried position for GPs and, following on from Sláintecare, the regional health area, RHA, implementation plan. That is referenced in the amendment Deputy Shortall has tab…

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

Baineann mo cheist le mo chathair féin, cathair álainn dhátheangach ar imeall na Gaeltachta is mó sa tír ach cathair atá ag déileáil le fadhbanna ollmhóra, an ghéarchéim tithíochta agus géarchéim na dtranglam tráchta san áireamh. Eascraíonn na fadhbanna sin go díreach as polasaí na comhairle cathrach agus polasaí an Rialtais. Táimid tagtha go dtí am na cinniúna. Tá ceist le cur agus freagra ag teastáil. Cá bhfuil ár dtriail mar chathair i gcomhthéacs na ndualgas atá orainn maidir le hathrú aeráide? As the Minister …

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions

First, a correction. An Bord Pleanála did not say, "No" to the ring road; the High Court said, "No" to the ring road because An Bord Pleanála acknowledged it failed utterly to consider climate change and our climate change obligations. That tells us something about An Bord Pleanála and the management that submitted such a plan. In the conference I mentioned, the chief planner, who has huge experience in Freiburg, described Galway as being like a mouthful of broken teeth. He also said there was very little sign of u…

Central Statistics Office Sexual Violence Survey 2022: Statements

I could use the words "I welcome the opportunity", but "welcome" is not the word when we are talking about this topic. I wish we could monitor the implementation of the third strategy on a regular basis, and have an implementation discussion as opposed to statements. I have made statements continuously since 2016. Repeatedly, I acknowledge that progress has been made. I acknowledge theoretically that the third national strategy was finally published, but, as always, I look back. I have before me - it is worth looki…

Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed) [Private Members]

I must now deal with a postponed division relating to Second Stage of the Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill 2023, which took place on Tuesday, 16 May 2023. On the question, "That the amendment to the motion be made", a division was claimed, and in accordance with Standing Order 80(2), that division must be taken now.

Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed) [Private Members]

I thank Deputy Brady for bringing forward this Bill. I have no hesitation in supporting it. I welcome the Palestinian ambassador. The Bill is extremely important. In a sense, it is symbolic but also builds on and gives meaning to words, rather than having the empty words the Government and other countries have used. It seeks to play restrictions on the NTMA and how it uses the assets of the ISIF, in particular regarding undertakings in companies that appear on the UN database of companies. The database was produced…
