On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Mental Health: Statements

The Minister of State and I have been here before and I have already congratulated her. There is an urgent need for the mental health Bill to be enacted. It was an absolute damming indictment of the last Government that it failed. I have praised the Minister of State for her work and I fully supported her with that Bill, but it fell. That Bill was the culmination of years of consultation and recognition that the system had utterly failed in respect of mental health. We go forward from the eighties and Planning for …

Housing Schemes

Gabhaim buíochas leis an gCeann Comhairle as ucht an cheist seo a phiocadh. Tá sé thar a bheith tábhachtach do Ghaillimh agus do chórais áitiúla ar fud na tíre. Tá an scéim seo ann chun cosaint a thabhairt do thionóntaí atá i dteach agus é ar intinn ag an tiarna talún an teach a dhíol. I gcásanna mar sin, is féidir leis an tiarna talún dul chuig an chóras áitiúil agus an chéad rogha a thabhairt dó an teach a cheannach. Mo léan géar agus faraor géar, de réir mo thuisceana, roimh an Nollaig, cuireadh an scéim seo ar …

Housing Schemes

I thank the Minister of State. I have given the details. I gave them to the Taoiseach when he took the question. There are 15 units with 11 sitting tenants. I wish the Minister of State the best, but when we get an answer like this that contains a lot of padding, it really is unhelpful. If the Minister of State was standing on this side of the House, she would be saying the same thing to me. Let us look at my very specific question. Has the tenant in situ scheme been suspended pending a decision to be made very soo…

Trade Sanctions

Baineann an cheist le taraifí agus an rud atá beartaithe ag na Stáit Aontaithe don Aontas Eorpach, Éire go háirithe. My question relates specifically to the tariffs. What analysis has been done on the impact of the proposed tariffs on the EU, given that Ireland, within the Union, is uniquely exposed, and in light of the policies we have adopted and our stance on Gaza. I realise things are changing by the minute regarding tariffs; they are promised and then not promised. What analysis has been done?

Trade Sanctions

The figures on our trade with the US, including our exports there, are something else, not to mention the figures on the services we import, which are even double those figures. The figure I have for exports to the US in 2024 is €103 billion. I am not arguing over figures at all; the enormity of the figures speaks for itself. My question is on the analysis that has been done by the Minister. He is saying it has been undertaken and that the results will be published in the economic outlook in April. I would have tho…

Trade Sanctions

I would be delighted to clarify my views on anything if I had a little more time. Specifically on the question, I am asking the Minister what analysis has been done and he is clarifying he is undertaking it and that it will be published in April. I understand the dilemma because there might be no tariffs tomorrow and it is all changing. We are dealing with a bully here. I asked about the exposure of Ireland specifically. It is exposed for many reasons. One is that we are utterly reliant on one type of policy and ap…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

Is mian liom dul ar ais go dtí cúrsaí tithíochta, go háirithe an scéim a bhí ann chun tionónta seilbhe a chosaint. Tá an dealramh ar an scéal go bhfuil an scéim sin curtha ar ceal nó ar fionraí agus nach bhfuil sí ag feidhmiú. I am returning to the tenant in situ scheme and to the earlier theme of who is actually telling lies. I say this because apparently the tenant in situ scheme has been suspended since the middle of December. This was conveyed verbally to the city council in Galway, which affected other local a…

What about the 11 units that are to go through this? I am sorry for interrupting, but just to clarify.

Programme for Government: Statements (Resumed)

There are many matters I would like to discuss regarding the programme for Government, ranging from housing to climate change, but in the time available I am going to zone in on just one discrete item that has huge implications for future generations, which is the undermining of our neutrality, spelt out in black and white. Before I come to that, it is significant that words like "progress", "encourage", "work towards", "support" are used in respect of really important policies and when it comes to the triple lock,…

Response to Storm Éowyn: Motion [Private Members]

I welcome this opportunity to contribute. I thank Sinn Féin for bringing forward the motion in its Private Members' time because it allows me a little more time today than I had last week to go back on some of the topics. This is very important. The motion and, indeed, the amendment, in part, are good in that we have acknowledged all the good work on the ground. That has been set out clearly and this is very important. I also acknowledge the latest update we have as of today after 5 p.m, which was that ESB Networks…

Middle East

I welcome the opportunity to ask for an update on the occupied territories Bill, more formally called the Control of Economic Activity (Occupied Territories) Bill 2018, which incorporates a ban on imports and services from the occupied areas. I would like a robust and honest exchange on this matter. Slaughter is happening daily in Gaza and the occupied territories. The occupied territories Bill speaks for itself - it is dated 2018. The programme for Government talks about progressing it. When will it be enacted?

Middle East

This and the previous Governments have had ample time since 2018 to enact the occupied territories Bill. It is a matter of great disappointment to everybody in the Opposition that the programme for Government talks about progressing it. The Government will change the triple lock but it will progress this Bill some time in the future, ignoring completely the reality on the ground and the new reality of President Trump talking about turning it into a Riviera. I wonder what kind of world we are living in when there is…

Middle East

I disagree fundamentally with the Tánaiste on this and I take no comfort that we are ahead in terms of our condemnation of what is happening. We need a lot more than condemnation. We need to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Their country has been destroyed. Genocide, in my opinion, is under way as we trade words across the Dáil. There is a case before the highest court in the world regarding the genocidal actions of the Israeli Government and its army-----
