On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Raise the Roof: Motion [Private Members]

I thank Sinn Féin and Raise the Roof for this comprehensive motion. It sets out the facts and then states that we need a radical shift in housing policy. That is exactly what we need because it is the policy of this Government and previous governments that has led to the emergency in which we find ourselves, which the Government has not declared an emergency. In the motion there are 14 points, and at the end it refers to the holding of a referendum to enshrine a right to housing in the Constitution. That is the mos…

Direct Provision System

I ask my question in the context of the 21st year of direct provision and the Minister's commitment to ending it. Specifically, I am asking the Minister the status of the review of projected timelines for the implementation of A White Paper to End Direct Provision and to Establish a New International Protection Support Service, the person who is carrying out the review, and the expected timeline for completion and publication of the revised implementation plan.

Direct Provision System

I realise the Minister is under extraordinary pressure given the crisis and the number of people who have come in from Ukraine. There are almost 40,000. It would be remiss of me not to point out that we have had numerous reports. We had the McMahon recommendations, as the Minister knows well, in 2015. We have had the Catherine Day report. We have various ombudsman reports and we have had the White Paper. We are into the 22nd year of direct provision and now we have the completely unacceptable situation where we are…

Direct Provision System

I do not think so. The Minister cannot stand over the distinction in the way we are now treating applicants from different countries. We have simply created an unacceptable division. I understand Comhlámh has written a detailed letter to the Minister. I would like to know if he has responded to that. They wrote to the Minister on 20 June appealing to him to address new and long-standing human rights concerns and so on They echo the recommendation from the round table on the theme, "Migration in our Common Home", ch…

Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed)

I had not intended to speak on this Bill because I like to be more prepared and to have read the documents, and that proved to be very difficult. I listened carefully to, and read, the Minister's speech and that is what motivated me to speak and say on the record that I have the most serious concerns, once again, about the way legislation is going through the Dáil. I have concerns for the staff, without identifying any staff, with regard to the pressure they are under to produce Bills and amendments in the manner t…

Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed)

The updated list indicates that Deputy Matthews is the next speaker, but it is between the Deputies to decide. There are two Government slots: one now and one later.

Cost of Disability: Motion [Private Members]

Cuirim fáilte roimh na cuairteoirí thuas staighre agus gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta Cairns as ucht an rúin seo a chur os comhair na Dála. I welcome and thank the people in the Gallery. Their work on the ground is recognised and is not wasted. There are more and more voices on their side in the Dáil. I know it is slow, but they are making progress. This motion is a basic one. I understand that the Government is accepting it and that there is no amendment to it. The motion notes our legal obligations, it acknowle…
