On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

The subject is extremely important but we are caught in the time and the Minister had nearly three minutes.

Airport Policy

I have given the Minister of State extra time. We have to listen to each other. We are moving on to the next question, go dtí an tríú ceist ar sonraíodh uain di in ainm an Teachta Ruairí Ó Murchú.

It is a pity there is so little time and I am a stickler for time. We are clearly colluding with genocide when we do not conduct inspections, random or otherwise, of planes landing in Shannon Airport. As we know through The Ditch and other sources and dedicated people on the ground, a number of American soldiers have gone through that airport. The Minister set out the provisions of the Chicago Convention and referred to another agreement. He told us it is clearly against the law to carry weapons and arms in civilia…

Air Navigation Orders

While the Minister is telling us he is going to search, sample and sanction, he has given us no details of that. In an earlier reply, he said he was bringing a memo to Government with regard to searching, sanctioning and sampling. When is that going to happen? Why has it not happened before this? The Minister stands here and tells us that he wants to reassure the public. The only way to reassure the public is to stop reliance on the reassurance of the American Government, because they are our friends. That is what …

Maternity Protection Bill 2024 [Seanad]: Second Stage

Gabhaim buíochas leis an gCathaoirleach Gníomhach. Fáiltím roimh an deis cúpla focal a rá faoin ábhar seo. Tá sé thar a bheith tábhachtach. Aontaím leis an mBille agus aontaím go bhfuil gá práinneach leis an mBille a chur tríd an Dáil. I welcome the opportunity to say a few words on this. The Minister has my support with regard to passing this legislation as speedily as possible. I have read the digest. The Minister explained in his opening statement that there are two areas of reform, one of which is to allow a pa…

Maternity Protection Bill 2024 [Seanad]: Second Stage

The collaborative forum of former residents of mother and baby homes and related institutions asked for this, the Clann report asked for this, the Department of Education pre-consultation report asked for this and so on. The OAK report, the Minister will remember, was a consultative report that was done. It was very good. It took on board people's views. The OAK report, prior to the mother and baby home redress scheme, pointed out that it was important and then the mother and baby home report itself, for all its fa…

Mother and Baby Homes

Ag bogadh ar aghaidh go dtí an tSaincheist Thráthúil dheireanach in ainm an Teachta Pat Buckley. The Deputy wishes to discuss the redress scheme for survivors of mother and baby homes. I was a little lenient with the previous speakers because I did not think this matter would come up. I ask the Deputy to stop after two minutes.
