On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 22 of 449 decisive votes (2 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Health (Preservation and Protection and other Emergency Measures in the Public Interest) Act 2020 - Part 3: Motion (Resumed)

I will explain again. Sinn Féin tabled an amendment. That amendment has now been put to the floor. The amendment was lost but a vote was called so it will go to a vote this evening.

Health (Preservation and Protection and other Emergency Measures in the Public Interest) Act 2020 - Part 3: Motion (Resumed)

That will come in due course this evening. We will deal with the amendment first. If the amendment is lost, the Government's motion will be put, as is the normal course in all voting on motions.

Commission of Investigation (Mother and Baby Homes and certain related Matters) Records, and another Matter, Bill 2020 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages

I move amendment No. 1: In page 3, to delete line 20. It is difficult to know where to start on this matter. I had 15 minutes to speak last night, which is an extraordinarily long time for somebody in a small group, and I did my best to capture the lead-in to this urgent legislation, as it has been described, that left the Government little choice other than to rush it through the Dáil by 30 October. I said this during the debate last night, and while I do not like repetition, it is important to note that my staff …

Commission of Investigation (Mother and Baby Homes and certain related Matters) Records, and another Matter, Bill 2020 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages

I thank the Minister. Things are becoming a little clearer but I am no closer to accepting his arguments. The one welcome thing I have heard is that Tusla's role in this is an interim measure. I wish to address the commission of investigation's sixth interim report. The Minister has confirmed that it raises significant issues around the disposal of records. He intends to publish that along with the commission's report after we pass the legislation. This is in spite of the fact that this legislation is based on the …

Commission of Investigation (Mother and Baby Homes and certain related Matters) Records, and another Matter, Bill 2020 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages

There is an amendment before the Dáil and it looks like we will not reach the others. I am on the point of giving up but then I realise what a privileged role I have. If I am at the point of giving up, what is it like for someone who has been through the process? I do not like emotional arguments and I think we have a duty not to be emotional because, while emotion is good, we have a duty to hold the system to account. That is what democracy and being in opposition are about. I have asked the Minister repeatedly ab…

Commission of Investigation (Mother and Baby Homes and certain related Matters) Records, and another Matter, Bill 2020 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages

There is no reason to delay the report. The reason the Minister gave for the Bill is that the commission will dissolve at the end of the month when the report is handed over. While it is extremely important, the report is a side issue. The report should be published forthwith. In the context of what the Government said, however, once the report is handed over, the commission will be dissolved. That is what the Minister told us and he said that is the reason for the urgency in dealing with the legislation. Now we kn…

Residential Tenancies Bill 2020: Second Stage

I do not want to interrupt the Deputy, but his colleague, Deputy Michael Healy-Rae, is indicating that he would like to speak.

It is difficult because we cannot hear the Minister with the interchange. It is important information but it cannot be heard.

I am not sure what is happening outside, but there is a good deal of noise and it is difficult to concentrate. Perhaps somebody could investigate what is happening.

Residential Tenancies Bill 2020: Committee and Remaining Stages

Just a minute. We are now into a situation where we have the Minister and several Deputies making comments. The House is discussing amendments Nos. 2 and 3. Deputy Barry wished to correct the record and I allowed him in to so do. I am not taking issue with that but, rather, pointing out what happened. I am simply asking Deputies to redirect themselves to amendments Nos. 2 and 3. I have given Deputies great latitude.
