I move: That the Bill be referred to the Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, pursuant to Standing Orders 95(3)( a ) and 181(1).
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 958 of 966 decisive votes (3 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

I move: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time." The Bill, which I am pleased to bring forward, legislates for two areas. The first part seeks to modernise the area of veterinary medicines and medicated feed. As Deputies may be aware, at EU level last year, we saw the implementation of two new regulations in this area. The Bill will reinforce those regulations in Irish legislation in a once-in-a-generation change. It shows our commitment to key objectives in the regulations, namely addressing antimicrobial resist…
I thank Deputy Cahill for raising this important issue and for outlining the benefits that genotyping would have for our national herd. As the Deputy knows, this is a matter that I have spoken on recently. I have outlined clearly that it is my ambition to ensure that Ireland's is the first beef herd in the world to be fully genotyped. I look forward to taking steps towards that and ensuring we can deliver on it. Food Vision 2030 is our ten-year strategy for the sustainable development of the agriculture and food se…
I thank the Deputy. Certainly, there is an urgency around this. I have outlined my ambition to make sure that Ireland is the first country in the world to have genotyped our full beef and livestock herd. That is something that I am now taking forward with my own Department and stakeholders. We are assessing and identifying the verifiable emissions reductions from doing that, and also the economic potential in relation to it. There is a serious job of work to be undertaken here. We are ahead of the curve in the exte…
We are providing the forestry and we are driving it on.
I welcome this opportunity to address the House on Ireland's forestry strategy and other forestry matters. I emphasise again the importance of the forestry sector to the Irish economy and the important role of forestry in the delivery of our targets under the climate action plan. I am heartened by the cross-party support for forestry and for improving our afforestation rates in the country. Almost every Deputy in the House has spoken about our need to increase afforestation rates for the benefit of farmers, rural c…
It is being printed.
Yes. We will get it to the Deputy as soon as-----
Deputy Carthy used about four hours yesterday.
You can come back next week if you want.
We have turned a corner and are moving forward. We have turned it around and are putting them in.
I thank the Rural Independent Group for tabling this motion on inshore fisheries. It is a sector which needs and deserves attention in this Dáil. It is close to my heart. I have fought tooth and nail for it as Minister to do all I can to support it. It is central to everything I do as Minister responsible for the marine. It is good to see it getting some floor time here in the Dáil. For the first time since I was appointed as Minister, it is good to see this, which is the first time that any group has tabled a moti…
The Deputy's colleague and brother who was co-opted to Cork County Council has been its chair. It is the local authority that was supposed to make any application. I ask the Deputy to get those ducks in a row before giving out to me for not granting funding.
I will move on and deal with the issues here. The Government has been committed to supporting the inshore fisheries sector in specific ways, including ensuring inshore waters continue to be protected for smaller fishing vessels and recreational fishers and that pair trawling will be prohibited inside the six-mile limit. I am very supportive of this objective. I met specifically with the National Inshore Fisheries Forum, NIFF, in December last year to hear its concerns and goals for the inshore fishing sector. The N…
-----every way I can to back the inshore sector. Please, do a bit more across the board to ensure the value of the inshore sector is recognised across the floor of the Dáil.
I am happy to do it.
Is the Deputy not going to give me the time now?
I thank Deputy Healy-Rae for the opportunity to come in and clarify that. I want to be very clear to Deputy Michael Collins. I was not accusing Cork County Council of being asleep at the wheel. Rather, I was accusing Deputy Collins of being asleep at the wheel because he was up here railing and ranting about an application that did not get funding, but which was not submitted. There is no proposal from Cork County Council regarding the development of Union Hall. No proposal is ready which meets the criteria in rega…
Do not tell me they are voting against their own motion.
I have heard it all now.
