On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 437 of 440 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I join with Senator Wall in calling for the speedy progress of the Life Saving Equipment Bill 2017 through this House. It was introduced here in 2017 by then Senator Keith Swanick and was reintroduced into the House with the permission of the Cathaoirleach when he was Leader two years ago. We got it to Report Stage and it has been with the Department for over a year now. I ask that it be brought back into this House so we can send it to the Dáil and get it into law as a matter of urgency. This is very important leg…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

If the Garda Reserve was properly enforced and enabled, it would be a huge resource the State could do with at this moment in time.

Location of Victims' Remains: Motion

Like my colleagues, I welcome the families of the victims who are collectively known as "the disappeared" to the Gallery along with the representatives of the WAVE Trauma Centre. They are very welcome but should not have to be here. I welcome the Minister, Deputy Harris, and I think this is the first opportunity I have had to welcome him as the new Minister for Justice. He is very welcome but, yet again, he should not have to be here either. I commend my colleagues, Senators Blaney and McGreehan, for tabling this e…

Election of Cathaoirleach

I second the proposal. It is great to see Senator Norris back in the Chamber and sitting in the Chair, albeit for a few moments, although I understand he will give us an address so he could possess the Chair for rather a few moments. It is my honour to second the nomination of Senator Jerry Buttimer. I have known Senator Buttimer since September 1984, which was just a few years before Senator Norris became a Member of this House. I am delighted to have the opportunity to second him and, with the permission of the A…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I wish to second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by my colleague, Senator Craughwell on behalf of everyone who signed the motion that was circulated last week. It is to commemorate the Holodomor, which means in Ukrainian “inflicting death by starvation” on the Ukrainian people, which happened during 1932 and 1933. This was an horrific genocide cast upon the Ukrainian people during those years by the totalitarian Stalinist regime. I was not aware of the genocide until it was brought to my attention b…

Ireland's Military Neutrality: Motion [Private Members]

I commend Senators Clonan and McDowell and my colleagues on putting forward this important motion. It is timely, given the war situation we are in. I would like to say a few words on behalf of Fianna Fáil and then to make a few comments on what Senators Clonan and McDowell have said in their contributions. Neutrality means different things to many people. As a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Ireland as a country is beginning to question our neutrality policy and to ask what it means to be neutral. Fianna Fá…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I would like to join the Leas-Chathaoirleach in passing my sympathies to Bridget on the death of her brother. May he rest in peace. On 26 November, which is just a little over a week away, the people of Ukraine and Ukrainians throughout the world commemorate 90 years since the beginning of the Holodomor of 1932 and 1933. This was a man-made famine which was enforced by the deliberate policies of the totalitarian Stalinist regime and took away millions of innocent lives. For decades this appalling act of inhumanity …
