On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 718 of 722 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Control of Dogs (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024: Second Stage

I move: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time". The Minister is very welcome to the House. I am very grateful that the line Minister in charge of this Bill is here. Often, we do not have a Cabinet Minister before us. I thank the Minister and the Cabinet for not opposing the Bill. In recent days, weeks and months, dog control and welfare has been at the forefront of her Department. Some days ago, there was a desperate tragedy when a poor young woman was fatally attacked by her dogs. It was an incredible tragedy f…

Control of Dogs (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024: Second Stage

I thank the Minister for her positive response to the Bill and her acknowledgement that it is part of the wider conversation. I absolutely agree with the Minister around XL Bully dogs. Those dogs are bred to be killers and to be dangerous. It is cruel for an animal to be bred and mutated - that is actually what it is - to be dangerous. While they can love you, they can kill you. A small Jack Russell certainly cannot do so to the same extent. I want to issue a retort to Senator Flynn's comments. This is not about di…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I raise the plight of thalidomide victims again in this House. I ask that An Taoiseach prioritises the talks with the Irish Thalidomide Association and that there is a conclusion to the saga and hell that thalidomide victims have had to go through for more than 60 years. They absolutely deserve a State apology, the acknowledgement of victims who are not as yet acknowledged, adequate healthcare packages and adequate compensation. Thalidomide victims are victims of something done to them and done to their mothers. Sa…

I welcome the Minister of State. I want to ask the Department of Health to ensure accessibility to healthcare for all patients accessing and engaging with healthcare providers. I ask that all patients are corresponded and communicated with in as accessible a manner as is technologically and physically possible, taking into account the various disabilities within our population. I want to stress the critical importance, which I know the Minister of State understands, of ensuring accessible information and correspond…

Go raibh maith agat. I appreciate this is a general response with regard to accessibility. Absolutely, there has been an awful lot of positive work done with regard to the EU web accessibility directive and we are working through that as a State. Healthcare providers have responsibilities under the existing legislation, which goes back to 2014. People have the right to access healthcare. It is not only for those with visual impairment. I have heard of people in wheelchairs who have problems accessing BreastCheck an…
