On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 305 of 309 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

Senator, please. I allowed the Senator in. When Senator Fitzpatrick has finished her comments, that is the end of it. This man has sat here for three hours and he still has not had an opportunity to deal with the issues the Senators are questioning him on. Briefly, Senator Fitzpatrick. You are entitled to your good name.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

Lots of people speak out for people in difficult circumstances. At last, I have the opportunity to let the Minister have the floor.

Sentaor Gavan. Allow the Minister to speak without interruption.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

The Minister has sat here for three hours. If Senators want to say something, say it through the Chair. I ask Members not to interrupt. We only have a few minutes left. If Senators want to hear the Minister out on some of the issues, let him speak. That is all I ask.

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

It is with regret I have to interrupt the Minister. As it is now 1 p.m., I am required to put the following question in accordance with the order of the Seanad of 15 July 2024: "That amendment No. 115 is hereby negatived in Committee, section 44 is hereby agreed to in Committee, the Government amendments undisposed of are hereby made to the Bill, in respect of each of the sections undisposed of, the section or, as appropriate, the section as amended, is hereby agreed to in Committee, Schedules 1 to 6, inclusive, ar…

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I support the sentiments that have been expressed about Senator Currie’s amendment in particular. There are undoubtedly issues with these masts. I see them in my own county. The planning authority decides that it does not have to consult the public on the licences and, all of a sudden, people find these structures being erected. I know a man who has a site on the edge of a village right beside his business. A massive telecommunications pole went up on the edge of the footpath and right in front of his site. He had …

Planning and Development Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed)

I apologise to Senator Dolan; I had not realised she had been in the Chamber earlier and had gone out. It was not in any way intentional. I support the comments by Senators Chambers and Dolan on the need for real infrastructural development, particularly in the west and midlands. As both said, we are a long way behind and need to move forward. We certainly do not want the west and midlands to be a wilderness. We need to properly develop all the wonderful tourism attractions we have, including the walking routes, th…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Like Senator Dolan, I express my congratulations to Gaillimh on its great win, and to Armagh. It will be a sensational all-Ireland football final. Of course, the hurling final will be played between the Cathaoirleach's county and County Clare. The combinations are a bit different this year, which will make for two good all-Ireland finals. I will briefly return to the issue of crime in rural areas. I will speak about an issue I have been reluctant to talk about. Over recent months, I have come under enormous pressur…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Déanaim comhghairdeas leis an Seanadóir Bradley. Is lá an-speisialta é di agus dá clann. The Taoiseach has made a very positive statement in appointing the Senator to Seanad Éireann. I came in as she was coming to the conclusion of her address. Rather than offering her any advice, I am likely to be seeking advice from her because she is very grounded and is focusing on the very important things in life. I welcome that. I return to the issue of crime not only in our urban areas, but in our rural areas. It is not onl…

Residential Tenancies (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2024: Second and Subsequent Stages

Similar to Senator Moynihan, I do not intend to delay the House. I compliment the Minister of State and his staff. Reading the Bill is so simple for Members. It is very straightforward. I know it is quite straightforward but it is also put very simply. When we come to the end of the brief it states the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science has already notified public and private SSA providers of the publication of the Bill and has requested that its measures be adopted without…
