As the Minister of State, Deputy Naughton, must leave I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Feighan, who is from the same county as me. He will sit in for the rest of the debate.
On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 305 of 309 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.
This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Rightly or wrongly, I am a person who lives in a world that believes mistakes can be made. In today's society, it seems no mistake can be made. Of course what happened is regrettable for leaving certificate students, teachers and parents. The error caused stress but it was not of the Minister's making. If anybody in this Chamber believes that we will ever get to live in a world where nobody makes errors, then he or she is in the land of make-believe. I express my admiration for leaving certificate students. As has …
We now move to a motion on human rights violations against the Uyghur Muslim population and other minority groups in China.
The Senator will have an opportunity to come back in later.
I am sorry to interrupt Senator Mullen, but we want to keep to the time slots. I call Senator McDowell to second the motion.
I remind Members to be careful about referring to people who are not in the House. There are rules and regulations by which I have to go and I just want to point that provision out to Members. I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Brophy, to the House. He has 15 minutes.
Now we move to Fine Gael. The spokesperson this week is Senator O'Reilly. You have eight minutes, Senator.
I fully support Senator Gavan and others in their comments regarding the protestors who are carrying on in such an appalling way. It drives me mad when I see the Tricolour being flown by people who are doing everything to destroy all that it stands for. The question of how we take them on is one thing but what is certain is that we must be outspoken against them. Anybody who has spoken to older people and others affected by Covid or watched the young man on the news last week who is on two crutches and trying to ge…
I thank Senator Sherlock. It was remiss of me to not welcome the Minister of State, Deputy English. He is very welcome, and he will be addressing us later. I call Senator Bacik to second the motion. She has eight minutes.
That is fine.
I am sure the Leas-Chathaoirleach, given his strong links to County Roscommon, will have heard the debate about Lough Funshinagh on many occasions. I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Sean Fleming, for coming to the House to discuss this matter. Lough Funshinagh is a special area of conservation, SAC, in County Roscommon. It was once known as Ireland's amazing disappearing lake. There were reports going back to the 1950s and 1960s that the lake actually disappeared in a short space of time. The most recent word o…
I will not labour my point any further. I thank the Minister of State for a very open and frank exchange on the issues I have raised. It is good to know that a meeting will take place. There are two things that should be borne in mind. First, the lake continues to expand, by 4 ft in one year, despite all that has been done to address the problem. Second, I know it is a peculiar argument to make but the reality is that because the lake is associated with a SAC, the flooding has led to the destruction of flora and fa…
I will not take up five minutes to allow other Members to have their say. Aviation has been crushed by what I call the big C, namely, Covid-19. We all realise that we have to be careful, stick by the rules and regulations and fight Covid but we need to bring into this debate a message of living with the virus while being careful. For this reason, it is good the Minister of State is here and we are discussing the aviation sector. Coming from the west, she is committed to our regional airports. There is no doubt abou…
I call on the Minister of State to speak. She is very welcome. I wish her well in her new role as a good west of Ireland lady and a friend of mine.
The gentlemen have one minute between them for a supplementary question. I am not going to allow people ramble on.
I thank the Senator.
I know it is, but we have to-----
Okay.
I accept that and we will have time. I am sorry to cut across the Senator.
I gave a bit of leeway there because two Senators were involved. I ask for everybody's co-operation on the remaining matters.
