On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 112 of 986 decisive votes (9 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

Genocide in Gaza: Motion [Private Members]

I move: That Dáil Éireann: notes that: — more than 150,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded in Gaza since Israel began its military operation more than 12 months ago; — among this number are more than 43,000 people who have been confirmed dead, two-thirds of whom are women and children; — more than 90 per cent of Gaza's population have been displaced, and nearly 70 per cent of its buildings destroyed or damaged; — Israeli missiles have targeted hospitals, schools, universities, United Nations (UN) facilitie…

The Tánaiste is the only one politicising things.

Genocide in Gaza: Motion [Private Members]

I thought the Tánaiste's contribution was poor, but then the Minister of State finished his contribution with the statement that while the Government will not oppose the motion, it also will not support it. That can only be described as some form of Schrödinger's cowardice. It was outrageous. The motion tabled by the Social Democrats speaks of our obligations under the Genocide Convention, particularly Article 1, and I want to be very clear about what that article states. It states that all state parties have an ob…

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation

As the Tánaiste is a proud Corkonian, I am a very proud Dubliner. It irked me this week when I heard him refer to the fact that several of our cities are unsafe. It is not that I disagree, because there is a perception of unsafety. However, as leader of Fianna Fáil and a member of Cabinet, does he accept responsibility for the decline in our capital city? We have seen our policing numbers fall. We have seen dereliction blight our streetscapes. All the while throughout this term I have asked for some action. We got …

Carer's Allowance: Motion [Private Members]

I appreciate the Cathaoirleach Gníomhach's discretion and thank him for it. Most of us want to thank Sinn Féin for bringing forward this motion, which is a vitally important one that urges us to acknowledge the immense, often unseen, contribution carers make to our society. Such care is effectively a shadow health service. It is high time we addressed the appalling treatment they receive from a system that seems blind to their worth, one that has left too many of them out in the cold. As this is the last speaking s…

Bus Services

I wish to raise with the Minister of State the issue of the No. 11 bus, but not so much its future because that is starting to look very unlikely under the current plans. I am conscious that this is not the first time the No. 11 bus has been raised with the Minister of State in the Chamber. I was present last week when his party colleague Deputy McAuliffe raised it. I was a little surprised to hear the Minister of State's response to the Deputy and me on that occasion. He said that it was time people started talkin…

Bus Services

What I am going to say is not targeted at the Minister of State directly or individually. The next comment is not for him. There is a massive arrogance to just ploughing on regardless here. I have had it from the NTA, and I have had it from any sort ministerial intervention we have called for. Though I appreciate there are statutory limitations, we do know that there have been changes in the past that came from a groundswell of public opinion. I have also had it from other people in some of the coalitions the Minis…

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

Did the Taoiseach need a high-level task force, taking over five months to deliver its report, to tell him that Dublin city centre needed more gardaí? On 9 May of this year, when he said he would commission a task force report, he said it would take 12 weeks and that he would bring back its findings before the summer, with an expectation the budget would be allocated as such. We got a report yesterday with ten decent recommendations, in fairness, but they have all been mentioned before and there is no budget or pla…
