On prevailing side: this member voted with the winning side in 236 of 237 decisive votes (0 abstentions excluded). Read it as a government-or-opposition indicator rather than a measure of influence — the figure is near 100% for members supporting the government of the day and near 0% for those opposing it.

Party over time

This is the point of the site: contributions keep the party held on the day, not the one held now.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business

I congratulate the Acting Chair on his elevation to the position of Cathaoirleach for today at least. Well done, Garret. He is one of very few people, including myself, who have done it occasionally. It is a nice privilege to get, particularly on the last day before the general election is called. However, as Senator McDowell pointed out, I remember being here two days before the count discussing Covid legislation the last time, so we may be back again to discuss some legislation. Whether there will be an Order of …

Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage

I welcome the Minister for Health, Deputy Donnelly, back to the House once again. I also welcome to the Public Gallery my own intern, Mr. Mason Shaver from St. Louis, Missouri, who has been interning with me for a few weeks and will be here for a few more weeks. Mr. Shaver is very welcome and I hope he is enjoying his time here in Leinster House.

Family Courts Bill 2022 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report and Final Stages

This is an important, useful and valuable Bill. As it happens, I have been following it the whole way through its passage. I was spokesperson in February when then Minister, now Taoiseach, Deputy Harris, was covering for the Minister for Justice. We brought it through Committee Stage not long ago. I will not delay it at this stage. I am delighted it is on the way. There is an awful lot involved. The Minister outlined just how much, and she only referred to the amendments as opposed to the entire Bill. This is worth…

Family Courts Bill 2022 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report and Final Stages

I wish to briefly pay tribute to not just the Minister, which I have done and I hope to do again in the future, but also to Senator Cassells. We both ran for the first time in 1999 in various local elections. He has been a member of a town council, county council, the Lower House and now this House. He has given exemplary public service over the past 25 years and I pay tribute to him as he happens to be in the Chair and I am delighted to see it is him as we conclude, at least for the moment, as we may have to come …
